Pi, Pie, or Pineapple?

Dear Friends,
Despite the name, Block Party USA is not just about block parties. Our focus is micro-local neighborhood gatherings (you can see how that would be a little too wordy for a website name 😉).
These neighborhood gatherings take all different forms.
In the last few months we’ve talked about how to gather despite the weather with winter gatherings (like smores fire pit or coffee and donuts in the garage), and now it’s time for Pi Day! Pi Day is celebrated annually on March 14 (3/14) to honor the mathematical constant (approx. 3.14).
A reader in Washington, D.C. shared the fun tradition her neighbor organizes for an annual neighborhood Pi Day gathering and maybe it will inspire you to organize one too!
The organizer’s husband makes an assortment of Pizzas and they set out a couple of tables in front of their house. Neighbors are invited to bring anything that begins with the letters “Pi.” Popular items are pineapple, assorted pies, pistachios, pickles, pierogi and often a pitcher of piña coladas!
Pi Day is the perfect excuse for a simple, neighborhood gathering (and one of my favorites). Here’s the best news for this gathering: You don’t need permits, decorations, or perfection. Send out an invitation to your neighbors to bring something that starts with “Pi." It’s such a fun, low maintenance opportunity for neighborhood connection.
