The extension we’ve all been wanting!
Dear Friends,
The more people I talk with about Block Party USA’s American Summer campaign, the more I realize that whilst we don’t need to extend Summer (it’s time to get those kids back into a routine!) we should definitely extend American Summer!
So many of you have told me that you’ve been planning to have your block party in September and early October because you finally have the capacity to organize it and need the temperatures to be a little cooler outside.
So, we’re officially extending American Summer to Sunday, October 4th!
What makes me most excited about this, other than giving more opportunities to bring neighbors together through this back-to-school season, is that it now encompasses two things close to my heart:
National Good Neighbor Day on September 28th, which is a day to celebrate what Block Party USA is all about.
The US Chamber of Connection’s Welcome Week, which runs through Sunday, October 4th. This is a national week of invitation– to reach out and invite someone—to connect. Pledge to invite a neighbor to coffee and donuts, a walk, a block party, or anything else during Welcome Week.
Let’s use these extra weeks of warm evenings and cooler days to organize the block party you’ve been thinking about all year (or longer?) Your neighbors are waiting for it – and you will be thrilled you did it!
Speaking of Neighbors…do you live in or near New York City? I’m honored to be joining the community panel for BROTHERHOOD’s Love Your Neighbor Tour when it comes to NYC next week on Wednesday, September 2nd at the Bernstein Theater.
Brotherhood is a musical feature film that follows the story of two neighbors: Jon is a lifelong US citizen; Fabián is a Mexican immigrant who has been waiting more than a decade for progress on his US asylum application. As the two men and their families navigate a divided 2026 America, they are awakened to a new sense of their shared humanity and what it really means to love your neighbor.
This event is a live presentation with the creators and cast of the movie, not a screening. The evening will feature live performances of songs from the film, an exclusive first look at scenes from the movie before it reaches theaters in October, and a live conversation about what it actually means to love your neighbor.
Admission is free, and seats go by RSVP, so please grab yours early.
